JV Boys Tennis
---
By Nick Richard
The month of April was the
last month for JV tennis. Despite an up-and-down campaign, the
group of freshmen and sophomores looked to close out their season
with some positives.
It would not be easy for the boys, as they battled one of the
league’s elite, the St. Ignatius Wildcats. Unable to overcome
the S.I. toughness, the Warriors fell 0-7. Rather than hanging
their heads, the boys used the defeat as a building block for
their match against Riordan. Looking like a totally different
team, Valley bounced by Riordan 6-1. This spark of momentum would
carry them past the Serra Padres, 5-2. Led by standout freshmen
Taylor Perkins, the team had their first two victories of the
year.
However, the boys would have to take their games to the next level
in the upcoming games, starting with a match against undefeated
Bellarmine. The Bells would prevail, 0-7. Engaged in battle against
the Lancers of St. Francis, the boys ran out of steam in a 2-5
defeat. In the season finale, the Warriors looked to avenge their
loss to St. Ignatius, but were unable to pry a victory, falling
0-7.
Sophomore Ramanan Kulasingham commented, “The team played
very well and tried hard. Perkins played very well.” Along
with Perkins, other freshmen like George Fahmy and Michael Truong
look to use this year as a stepping stone for next spring’s
tennis season.
