JV Boys Volleyball
---

By Erin Parker

The J.V. volleyball team has had an inspiring season as Lance Kilpatrick led them in a very competitive season. Since the beginning of the season the boys have shown a real difference in their playing skills. “We are like a family now and we show teamwork. Sometimes we argue, but when it comes down to the daily grind, we are really tight and ready for the game,” said sophomore Ken Wiggington. The boys hard work and dedication shine through. Recently, the boys beat Bellarmine, who is one of their hardest competitors. They beat Bellarmine 2 out of 3 games and to Josh St. Martin, this was a very proving result of the teams dedication; “The Bellarmine game was the turning point for our team. We have shown a lot of improvement since the beginning of the season.” During that game, the players showed charisma and energy. Team Captain Jay Henderson scored three aces in a row during that game. “It was a very exciting game for everyone. Devon Riggs, the assistant captain is very supportive to the team as well, and we all did our best.”

With the boys practicing every day from 2:30 until 4:30, their hard work is most certainly paying off. They beat Leland in one of their tournaments, which they found a very surprising and joyful result. “There was tension in the team because Leland’s starting setter came back, but as a team we pulled through, and we won!” said St. Martin. On April 14, the boys played St. Francis and won 2 out of 3 games, bringing in another win for the team. “Our team is improving fast and the guys who have never played before are really stepping it up and playing to the best of their ability. Our coach pushes us to play our best. We complain a lot, but he still encourages us even when we are losing badly. As a team captain I always have to encourage the guys because volleyball is a very emotional sport, but as a captain I always try to bring them up,”said Henderson. Currently the boys are 4-5, and students can look forward to seeing great things from them.
