TRACK & FIELD RACES
TO VICTORY
---
By Kristin Chulik
Track season has officially
kicked off a great start; the team is strong and looking forward
to an outstanding season. Everyday after school many athletes
head off to the track where they endure a tough practice that
is necessary to improve their area of specialties. The athletes
up on the track work hard to be able to successfully compete in
the WCAL. The endurance and skill it takes to be successful on
the track is why only a few athletes are able to stand out.
Many of the track athletes have just returned from LA after competing
in Arcadia, which is a highly competitive invitational track meet.
Four athletes from Valley were invited to this exclusive track
meet. Dahlys Marshall placed first in her event, Khrystal Carter
took second, Eveyln Wing placed fourth, and Dominique Hunsucker
also placed fourth. Those four individuals went to L.A. and showed
their skill by coming out strong and doing exceptionally well
in the invitational.
The girls of the track team started off the season strong with
the record so far of 1-1. Three of the girls are ranked in state:
Wing is third, Carter is fourth, and Marshall is ninth. The girl’s
team is second in CCS in the 400-relay, and first in CCS with
the 1600-relay. The boys are also doing well. They have faced
some tough teams, but they continue to work hard and give their
all. Hunsucker is representing the boys team with fist place in
CCS right now. The track team is full of athletes who are willing
to spend extra hours on the track in order to come out on top
in the WCAL. The team is also working hard to send athletes to
CCS this year.
