Spotlight Athlete: Jarrod Swanson
by Adam Hill

In one of the toughest leagues in the nation, hardly anything can slow up Jarrod Swanson, except for rain. Swanson has continued to contribute much offensively and defensively to this season’s superior varsity baseball team.
Hitting in the heart of the order is an everyday thing for Swanson. He is hitting over .500 with a skyrocketing on base percentage. At 6’ 4”, Swanson has earned his name as one of the most feared hitters in the West Catholic Athletic League. Coach Jeremy Cunningham will never forget Swanson’s at bat last year against Jared Lansford of St. Francis, when Swanson hit a monster shot that cleared the fence with no problem. Swanson also has a great presence behind the dish when he catches, which allows his pitchers to stay calm and competitive.
Voted as one of the Puma All-Americans, Swanson has constantly been receiving offers from various colleges such as Masters, St. Joseph, UC Riverside and many more.
“Jarrod has been in the varsity program since sophomore year. We all look up to him to make plays and come up big in clutch situations. Not only is he a great player, he’s also my best friend,” said senior outfielder Danny Brassfield. Swanson is a very hard worker, possesses great leadership skills and is very well liked by everyone. With a sense of humor, Swanson brings a smile into the baseball clubhouse everyday. In 2004, Swanson was part of the second team all-league, and in 2005, the first team all-league. Swanson looks forward to his next years in college baseball and has dreams to win a CCS championship for his last year in high school baseball.

Spiritual Emphasis Week
Imagine trudging through a swamp waist deep with nothing to guide you but your compass. It is night, and you have to use your instincts to find your way to a marked point. For speaker Darrin Crowder, he has met many similar challenges such as this when he joined the army.
Crowder came to Valley Christian the week of March 27 to share his message with the students of how to separate “what the world tries to say to you vs. what the Bible is trying to tell you.”
