Christmas Devotional
by Amanda Belz
Luke 2:11 - Today in
the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ
the Lord.
December. When you think of December, you automatically think
of snow, cold, and getting presents at Christmas. But does your
mind ever go to the real reason of Christmas?
Last year, all I could think about was how badly I wanted to have
a Jeep Grand Cherokee instead of the minivan I was driving. Did
I think of the real reason behind Christmas? I’m sorry to
say but absolutely not. I think that the real reason we celebrate
Christmas has gotten lost in the shuffle of getting gifts, getting
a tree, and thinking of Santa.
I know I’ve been there. Walking around the mall, looking
for the perfect present for friends and family. Do you think I
was ever thinking about the real reason we celebrate Christmas?
No, I was thinking, “I hope the line at Macy’s isn’t
long so that I can get out of here and go home.” Not exactly
the greatest way to celebrate Christmas.
But that’s not the real reason that we Christmas. The real
reason why we celebrate Christmas, the real reason Christmas even
exists, is the birth of the person who suffered for us and saves
us from going to hell. The real story of Christmas is about the
birth of God’s son, who gave His life to save us all. The
real story of Christmas is the birth of Jesus. He is the real
reason as to why we celebrate this holiday. The holiday isn’t
about giving gifts, the tree, and obviously not Santa. It’s
about Jesus.
I didn’t get that car but that’s not important. The
most important thing about December is the birth of Jesus. So
when you’re out getting your gifts, your presents, and your
tree, stop for one second and think. Why do I celebrate Christmas?
