Kaleidoscope: A Huge Hit
By Amanda Belz
On Thursday November 18, Friday
November 19, and Saturday November 20, parents and friends gathered
to view the student choreographed dance show Emotions: Kaleidoscope
in the VCHS theater.
Dancers were apprehensive before the show since one of the main
dancers and a choreographer, senior Michelle Baker, had broken
her foot in an unfortunate accident. The dancers were nervous
since Baker was in seven different dances. But the show must go
on and so it did, with different dancers filling in for Baker.
The show began with an introduction by Mrs. Autumn Mortenson,
director of the show. She warmly welcomed everyone to the show
then the first dance, “Painter’s Brush,” began.
Between the dances, quotes from different people, such as Friedrich
Nietzsche and Johnny Carson, and scripture verses were projected
on the cyclorama. The show was a fantastic display of different
colors (a kaleidoscope of color) from red and black in “Cherry
Blue Skies,” to neon in “Frenzied,” to orange
in “Trust and Know,” and blue in “Blue Skies.”
Each dance also had a different story behind it, explaining why
the choreographers had chosen that song for their dance.
There were also two solo dances, one called “Still Standing”
by sophomore Meagan Crockett and the other “He is in Control”
by senior Alex Minke. Both dances were equally fantastic as they
showcased both dancers’ amazing talents. The show ended
with “I Believe,” a dance choreographed by Crockett
featuring different types of dancing. As the dancers came out
for curtain call, people in the audience stood and applauded wildly.
Freshman Sarah Maxwell was quoted as saying, “It was a great
show.” Junior Suzanne Westwood said, “I liked it,
there were a lot of colors and that was really nice.”
Emotions was an amazing show of colorful displays of dancing and
was overall an excellent show.
