Sweet Strings of Winter
Echo Through Valley
By Blake Anderson
The VCHS orchestra and string
ensemble continue to display impressive musical skill. On October
4, the string ensemble added their musical touch to the dinner
atmosphere at Cinnabar Hills Golf Club for the Valley Golf Classic.
On November 23, the orchestra—including woodwind instruments
as well as a string section bolstered by players from the VC junior
high to compensate for the volume of the woodwinds—performed
a sweeping collection of European pieces to a packed house.
The audience was sure to let the musicians know their talented
performance was appreciated. Featured soloists of the evening
were Dooly Kim and Alex Laishu on violin and Julia Shikashio and
Ashley Ng on cello. Attendees of the Teacher Endowment Dinner
at the Fairmont Hotel also enjoyed the string ensemble’s
talented musicians. In the days ahead, the ensemble has several
performances to make at local churches and senior citizen centers.
They are also making a CD of their concerts, and continue to employ
their talents to spread the Christmas cheer with some serene holiday
pieces.
Their natural talent is obvious, but practice does make perfect.
Both the orchestra and string ensemble have been practicing very
hard for weeks upon weeks. As a result, Valley Christian is truly
blessed to have this amazing group of students to call their own.
The orchestra and string ensemble’s performances are events
that can’t be missed. Be sure to check their schedule and
attend the next performance.
