Boys Varsity Water Polo
by Meryl Fulinara
The keyword for this year’s
water polo team was “foundation.” This year’s
team tried to set the “new” standard of water polo
at Valley Christian and did a good job with a record of 14-16.
Valley’s Water Polo team won their game on October 28 against
Saint Ignatius with a score of 15-10. After the tremendous win
over Saint Ignatius the team had another one of their infamous
“bonding” experiences, and decided to shave their
heads. The battle was hard fought, but the win was short lived
when they lost to Sacred Heart Prep 6-16. Although the team did
not win their playoff quarterfinal against Saint Francis, which
was 6-16, they showed a lot of heart playing their all this season.
Senior Jacob Young continued to show promise by posting the most
amount of goals this season, 29 games with 93 goals, that is a
3.21 average of goals scored per game. The all-league team is
comprised of the most talented players in the W.C.A.L., considering
that the West Catholic League is composed of eleven of the most
talented schools in Northern California. Young, not only scored
the most amount of goals during this season, his persistence paid
off as he was named Center/Forward on the first all-league team.
Making the second all-league team were senior Matthew Theisner
as CB and junior Andrew Kikuta as a driver.
Although the water polo team did not make C.C.S. finals, they
still accomplished their goal of building a firm foundation for
the future of Valley Christian water polo. With all their hard
work this season to improve Valley Christian’s water polo
division, next year’s season is sure to be a great one.
