Varsity Girls Tennis Wraps
Up
by Steven Giordano
The girls varsity tennis
team has wrapped their great 2004 run. In the WCAL tournament,
Valley Christian placed 9 players into the tournement. Brittany
Brinkman, Alex Yacanine, and Annah Karacas represented Valley
on the singles side. For the doubles tournament Jessie Wrye with
Jolene Harington, Kristen Bayless with Megan Kuzia, and Mandy
Oswald with sister Erin Oswald played.
The fall season is over and looking back there have been many
highlights. These high’s range from their first win to their
simple enjoyment with each other even after a tough loss.
That first win was Valley Christian’s girls’ varsity
tennis team’s first win in league play in several years.
With first-year-ever coach Gaye McLaughlin at the helm, the girls
worked diligently yet did not deviate from the fact that tennis
is a game. “Fun Fridays,” as they called it, were
always looked forward to during the grueling weekday practices.
Senior Robby Valderrama one of the team managers stated, “In
all my years of tennis managing experience, never before have
I come across a team with so much heart, passion, and love for
the game.” While Valderrama has never managed before, he
felt quite strong in his assessment of the team!
The girls are already looking forward to next year and especially
the fall WCAL season.
