Varsity Basketball Hopes to Repeat Success
by Ryan Eshoff
WCAL? Check. CCS? Check. NorCal
semifinals? Check. Repeat??? Fresh off of last season’s spectacular
postseason run, the members of the boys varsity basketball team look
to continue their surge into the WCAL upper echelon.
Boosted by a pair of newcomers named Tim (freshman Harris and senior
Biederman), the squad also features a potent lineup of guards, including
seniors Terrance Worthy and Brandon Holland,
as well as juniors Andrew Daou and Ben Williams.
Although expectations are extremely high, the players know they must
remained completely focused on maintaining their steady work ethic.
The WCAL teams converged at Archbishop Riordan High School November
17 for the WCAL Jamboree. In this special event, the teams play in
a round-robin format, and are only on the court for about a quarter
at a time. This night is designed for respective coaches and fans
to get a glimpse of what the competition will be like in this year’s
WCAL.
In another display of early-season potential, the boys scrimmaged
Piedmont Hills November 19. Not only did the starters showcase their
substantial skills, but the younger, first-time varsity players were
able to get serious playing time and show what they can do.

JV Boys Soccer: Starting
Fresh
Usually, the boys J.V. roster is filled with quite a few freshmen.
As there is no freshmen soccer team, it is not at all unusual to see
some of Valley's newest students squaring off against some teams,
like Mitty and Bellarmine, who are chock full of sophomores and even
juniors. Naturally, putting freshman and juniors together seems slightly...
unfair. Things are going to be different this year.

Teacher Survey: Most
Embarrassing Holiday Moment?
Embarassing moments happen to everyone. They are not something
you can avoid or prevent, they are just part of life that most people
have learned to accept and shake off. Christmas brings joy but it
can also bring several embarrassing moments that a majority of people
would much rather forget. The events of Christmas such as the putting
up of the Christmas tree, or maybe trying to put together some of
the presents that say "assembly required" can bring those
most memorable Christmas moments.
