College
Admissions Process
By Michael Zamudio and Erin Parker
For college bound seniors the
months of November and December are the most hectic in the admissions
process.
Application deadlines fall during these two months and seniors work
continuously and arduously to finish applications and put final touches
on essays. It is a very stressful time for students to pile the time
of working on applications with daily homework and extra curricular
activities.
All the hard work that a senior has put into his high school career
finally seems to be paying off. The years of completing assignments
and competing in sports are all documented on the application and
students are encouraged to openly display their talents.
Senior Candice Avanes said, “The admissions process
has been very hectic, but an interesting process. Applying to college
is a once in a lifetime experience.” The application process is timely,
but does not have to be stressful. Preparation is the key and there
are plenty of ways to prepare.
For juniors, the process is unknown and an unusual subject when college
seems so far away.
With pressures from everywhere that this is the most “important year
for colleges,” the pressure is immeasurable. Parents are always questioning,
“What schools do you want to go to?” or “What do you want to major
in?” All of these are important to juniors.
Many underclassmen don’t even think of the college processes because
it seems so far away. For Kevin Zabihi, a junior,
college location is not an issue, but rather how college helps him
grow as a person. “I am not really that nervous about the [application]
process. I know I will get in somewhere. If we take education to be
about learning, instead of a means to money, you don’t really worry
about where you are going. It’s about where you are going to grow
the most as a person.”
Other juniors find that college application is too far away. “I am
trying not to stress,” said Jackie Houston, “Everyone
asks me where I am going to go, but I feel it is too early to think
about that yet.”
For many juniors, college seems far away, but it is just around the
corner. Juniors and seniors continue to stress, as the application
process for seniors comes to a close, and for juniors it is just beginning.

Community Service
Christmas, is a time for giving. It is at this time that Valley Christian
students put in a lot of effort of giving back to the community. THere
are many events going on, food drives, wrapping presents, and supplying
hot chocolate to those in need.

JV Boys Soccer: Starting
Fresh
Usually, the boys J.V. roster is filled with quite a few freshmen.
As there is no freshmen soccer team, it is not at all unusual to see
some of Valley's newest students squaring off against some teams,
like Mitty and Bellarmine, who are chock full of sophomores and even
juniors. Naturally, putting freshman and juniors together seems slightly...
unfair. Things are going to be different this year.

Teacher Survey: Most
Embarrassing Holiday Moment?
Embarassing moments happen to everyone. They are not something
you can avoid or prevent, they are just part of life that most people
have learned to accept and shake off. Christmas brings joy but it
can also bring several embarrassing moments that a majority of people
would much rather forget. The events of Christmas such as the putting
up of the Christmas tree, or maybe trying to put together some of
the presents that say "assembly required" can bring those
most memorable Christmas moments.
