Emotions: The Art of Imagination
by Jenn Elias and Tami Villa

The Emotions dance cast strikes a collective pose for the camera after the show.

The fall dance show, Emotions: The Art of Imagination, was performed November 30 through December 3 as a student choreographed concert. Not familiar with the phrase student choreographed? Well this just means that the students themselves received the opportunity to use their creative minds to make a dance including their own views and ideas. This dance show received great reviews by students, parents, and teachers. Director Mrs. Autumn Mortenson combined all these dance routines into one outstanding show. “She helps each individual to make their technique better and she is very organized in what she does,” the students explained. Some student choreographers included Faith Kriewall, Meagan Crockett, Lauren Foreman, Paula Coney, and Janay Lampkin. A certain freshman dancer named Janay Lampkin choreographed one of the sixteen dance routines called Planet Rock. She is new to VCDA and has eleven years experience. She is currently in the Hip-hop II and Jazz II. Janay has danced with Missy Elliot and in the American Music Awards. Her view of this show was that it was the best show she has danced in at Valley. This colorful production turned out to be a huge a hit and was a successful show.

Naturally, putting freshman and juniors together seems slightly... unfair. Things are going to be different this year.
