How To... Make a Snuggly Fleece Blanket
By Kylie Gifford and Kristin Chulick

Tie blankets make perfect gifts. They leave room for creativity, because you are given the option of making whatever color and size you want. The person will apreciate the time and thought you put into making the blanket.
1. Make a trip to the fabric store: you’ll need two pieces of fleece, each about two to three yards long, depending on how big you want your blanket to be. Try Hancock Fabrics (across from Oakridge Mall) or Jo-Anne Fabrics (on Blossom Hill) for the pattern you want.
2. Lay both pieces of fleece on the floor, one on top of the other, making sure the sides are lined up evenly. If you need to, trim the edges so that both pieces are exactly the same size.
3. Using sewing scissors, cut 5-inch squares out of all four corners of the fleece (from both layers). To spice it up a little, use pinking sheers—instead of just straight edges, they cut in a zigzag pattern.
4. Starting from the corner, cut both layers into strips about one inch wide and five inches long. Do this to all four sides of the blanket, making sure the layers stay lined up.
5. Using an overhand knot, tie the lined-up strips together. Make sure to double-knot (you don’t want the ties to come undone) and be careful not to stretch the blanket.
6. Just a tip: to make sure the layers don’t separate, use matching embroidery floss and a needle to tie small knots in three rows across the center of the blanket, about a foot apart.
7. Before wrapping the amazing creation you have so expertly produced, you are completely entitled to try it out: go ahead, put on your favorite Christmas movie and curl up on the couch. But be careful…after experiencing its magic, you just might not be able to let it go!

JV Boys Soccer: Starting Fresh
Usually, the boys J.V. roster is filled with quite a few freshmen. As there is no freshmen soccer team, it is not at all unusual to see some of Valley's newest students squaring off against some teams, like Mitty and Bellarmine, who are chock full of sophomores and even juniors. Naturally, putting freshman and juniors together seems slightly... unfair. Things are going to be different this year.
