Funk Styles Dance Worshop: A Great Success
by Kavita Padia

The funk styles workshop was a great success, as the dance room was filled with laughter and joy on November 8, 2005. Two original members of the Electric Boogaloos came up from Los Angeles to teach the Funk styles workshop. In case you missed the last issue, the Electric Boogaloos are a group that is responsible for creating the dancing styles of popping and boogaloo. The Funk Styles workshop covered the art of popping and Boogaloo.
Two classes were taught, one beginner level, and the other advanced. There to teach was Skeeter Rabbit, and Poppin’ Pete, who were original members of the Electric Boogaloos. The beginner’s class was taught about the basic art of popping, with incorporated Boogaloo style. Junior Danielle Tarangioli attended the workshop and raved about the experience. “The workshop was so awesome. Skeeter Rabbit and Poppin’ Pete rocked my world. Their dance moves were sharp and to the beat.” The advanced class was taught the same but at a more complicated level. Counts were cut out making the students have to do the movements at a faster speed. “It was really cool to take a class that focused just on the fundamentals of popping. It was interesting, and I had a lot of fun,” said senior Candice Avanes.

Naturally, putting freshman and juniors together seems slightly... unfair. Things are going to be different this year.
