High
Expectations for Girls Varsity Soccer
by Nicole Nielsen and Maricela Galaviz
The girls are back! After qualifying
for CCS for the fourth consecutive season, the varsity girls soccer
team is ready to begin another successful season together in 2005-2006.
Although the team is considered young with a significant number of
sophomores (5), the girls are extremely talented and prepared to compete
in an intense league. Preseason fitness training began October 3,
followed by team try-outs in late October. After a week off, after
try-outs, head coach Jolene Keel and assistant coaches
Bill Stryker and Adrian Fass, led
the girls through intense training to prepare them for their upcoming
season. “Despite the fact that we have such a young team, we have
a lot of skill. We are still learning to work together, and our bond
is becoming stronger everyday,” said senior Tiffany Makinster.
Following the scrimmage against Menlo High, in which the girls took
a 1-0 victory with junior Erin Vroom’s penalty kick
goal, the girls played four pre-season games against Leland, Scotts
Valley, San Joaquin Valley, and Live Oak high school. Junior Chanaé
Jones scored against Leland in the first half, giving the
Warriors another 1-0 win. Vroom and Jones both got one in the back
of the net against Scotts Valley, providing the third win this year
for the girls. Junior Ali Cheadle got her first goal
of the season against San Joaquin Valley during the first half of
the game. Sophomore Morgan Celaya secured the win
with her goal off of a direct kick later in the second half. The Lady
Warriors faced the Live Oak Acorns this past Tuesday. The girls played
another amazing game, and finished with a 6-0 win. Junior defender
Rachel Schweiger, junior Stephanie Patterson,
and sophomore Stephanie Bales each scored a goal, and Cheadle scored
three times in the second half, giving herself a “hatrick.” With such
a good attitude and work ethnic, the ladies are bound to do great
things this season.

JV Boys Soccer: Starting
Fresh
Usually, the boys J.V. roster is filled with quite a few freshmen.
As there is no freshmen soccer team, it is not at all unusual to see
some of Valley's newest students squaring off against some teams,
like Mitty and Bellarmine, who are chock full of sophomores and even
juniors. Naturally, putting freshman and juniors together seems slightly...
unfair. Things are going to be different this year.

Teacher Survey: Most
Embarrassing Holiday Moment?
Embarassing moments happen to everyone. They are not something
you can avoid or prevent, they are just part of life that most people
have learned to accept and shake off. Christmas brings joy but it
can also bring several embarrassing moments that a majority of people
would much rather forget. The events of Christmas such as the putting
up of the Christmas tree, or maybe trying to put together some of
the presents that say "assembly required" can bring those
most memorable Christmas moments.
