J.V.
Boys Win Piedmont Tournament
by Adam Hill
With long practices, and extreme
conditioning, this year’s J.V. Boys Basketball season is underway
and is looking strong already. “Redemption” is this year’s motto for
the boys. They are hoping to follow it and eventually win league.
This year’s team may not be as extremely tall, as most basketball
teams, but they have learned to overcome it and are playing a different
style of game.
This year’s J.V. team is extremely strong on defense. At practices
most of the emphasis is based on defense and running. The teams height
ranges from Tyler Gallau, who stands in at 6 feet
and 6 inches, to a 5 foot 6 Josh Scheibley. The team
feels extremely confident in their defense and their ability to run.
Along with key returners Austin Simon, Ryan
Eshoff, Dustin Lettenberger, Robby
Bustamante, and Darin Jones, there are a
few new additions to the team: Sophomore Josh Scheibley,
a transfer from Santa Teresa, and freshman Kyle Freeman-Bailey.
The team is really looking forward to this year’s season, being stronger
than ever; they are looking forward to defeating Bellarmine and St.
Francis.
Their opening scrimmage against Piedmont Hills was a success, as the
Warriors overcame a slow start to defeat their opponent. The first
scheduled games of the year began last weekend in the Piedmont Hills
Tournament as they swept the tourney going 3 and 0. The first game
was a major defeat over the St. Francis Lancers. “Lets go out and
win and leave it all on the court,” said Darin Jones before the game.
The Warriors then defeated Oak Grove with a score of 79 to 44. The
last game in the tourney was against Del Mar as the Warriors came
up with a win by over 30 points.
The tournament was a great start to this year’s season. Simon received
the “MVP” for the tournament, scoring 55 points in the tournament.
The “All Tournament Team” award was handed to Freeman-Bailey. Lettenberger
had a terrific shot as he made a 360-degree spin between two defenders
and shot to make the basket. But this was not the only help the team
has for the season, as they consist of great different abilities such
as Scheibley’s court vision, Bustamante’s spin move, and Eshoff’s
passing game.
This year’s basketball team is going to put on a show every game of
the year, as they look forward to hopefully defeating everything in
sight. The team’s preseason schedule includes games against Gilroy
and North Salinas.

JV Boys Soccer: Starting
Fresh
Usually, the boys J.V. roster is filled with quite a few freshmen.
As there is no freshmen soccer team, it is not at all unusual to see
some of Valley's newest students squaring off against some teams,
like Mitty and Bellarmine, who are chock full of sophomores and even
juniors. Naturally, putting freshman and juniors together seems slightly...
unfair. Things are going to be different this year.

Teacher Survey: Most
Embarrassing Holiday Moment?
Embarassing moments happen to everyone. They are not something
you can avoid or prevent, they are just part of life that most people
have learned to accept and shake off. Christmas brings joy but it
can also bring several embarrassing moments that a majority of people
would much rather forget. The events of Christmas such as the putting
up of the Christmas tree, or maybe trying to put together some of
the presents that say "assembly required" can bring those
most memorable Christmas moments.
