Mentors
of the Month
By Mark Farhat
This is the second year the mentoring
program has been in effect at Valley Christian High School. In this
program, junior and senior students are chosen to counsel the new
freshmen students with the goal of helping them adapt to the high
school environment. The mentoring committee would like to recognize
these students for their outstanding performance in the program.
Jessica Darwin
Jessica lives in Gilroy with her dad. She has three older sisters
and two younger brothers. She has a strong relationship with God,
which has brought her through her struggles in life. Jessica loves
to smile and sing and also enjoys telling people her stories in order
to make them laugh. When she grows up, she is hoping to become a pediatric
nurse and would like to be able to travel.
Jessica chose to be a mentor because she wanted to have an impact
on the freshmen. She did not have a mentor her freshman year but always
wanted one. This is the reason she is dedicated to be the best mentor
for the freshmen class. She hopes in return they could also be good
mentors for the freshmen after them.
One of Jessica’s mentors in life is her mother. She said, “My mom
has always supported me through everything. I feel really comfortable
talking with her about anything.”
Danielle Colombana
Danielle has been attending Valley Christian since the 6th grade.
She enjoys playing soccer and has played on the Valley Christian soccer
team for three years. She loves being able to talk and spend time
with her friends and family.
Danielle chose to be a VCHS mentor because she loves to listen to
her friends and feels she is someone who people can open up and talk
to. She claims, “I want to be able to share stupid stories and be
able to help and encourage the freshmen through the beginning of high
school. I also want to be someone my freshman can talk to and ask
questions.”
One of Danielle’s mentors throughout her life has been her mom. she
said, “My mom is always willing to sit down, talk to me, and give
me advice. She allows me to make my own decisions, while helping me
through the rough times in life.”
Eli Brill
Eli exclaims, “I love mentoring and have really enjoyed the experience!”
This is Eli’s second year in the program and he is very happy to be
continuing in it.
Eli chose to be a mentor because he wanted the opportunity to interact
with the freshman on a personal level. He also wanted to make sure
that the upcoming freshman would have a fabulous time at Valley Christian
just as he was able to experience since his arrival sophomore year.
When asked who his mentors in life are Eli answered, “both my parents
have been mentors for me. Mr. Judge has also became a mentor for me
during my years at Valley Christian.”
&&&
We thank these mentors, along
with all of the other mentors at Valley Christian High School for
for all the effort they put into working with the freshmen.

JV Boys Soccer: Starting
Fresh
Usually, the boys J.V. roster is filled with quite a few freshmen.
As there is no freshmen soccer team, it is not at all unusual to see
some of Valley's newest students squaring off against some teams,
like Mitty and Bellarmine, who are chock full of sophomores and even
juniors. Naturally, putting freshman and juniors together seems slightly...
unfair. Things are going to be different this year.

Teacher Survey: Most
Embarrassing Holiday Moment?
Embarassing moments happen to everyone. They are not something
you can avoid or prevent, they are just part of life that most people
have learned to accept and shake off. Christmas brings joy but it
can also bring several embarrassing moments that a majority of people
would much rather forget. The events of Christmas such as the putting
up of the Christmas tree, or maybe trying to put together some of
the presents that say "assembly required" can bring those
most memorable Christmas moments.
