VC Band: Not Quite Kosher
By Becky Wu
Not Quite Kosher, an alternative rock band formed
by Valley students, is one of the upcoming bands on Valley campus.
The band consists of four members: seniors Brad McLaughlin,
Chris McElhatton, Mike McCann, and
junior Ken Wigginton. Wigginton is the lead vocal
and guitar, McCann is the bass and back-up vocal, McElhatton plays
the drums, and last but not least McLaughlin is the keyboardist. There
were originally five members, however, senior Jeffy Can
quit the band because he felt that God had another plan for him. Can
was also the original lead vocalist.
There is an interesting story as to how the band came together. The
four seniors (including Can) were mentors for Valley. One day as they
were chatting, they randomly bought up a topic that they all shared
and loved-music. As the boys discussed their passion for music, they
decided to form a band. The former lead vocal, Can, then decided to
invite his good friend Wigginton to join the band and play the guitar.
Although all the members are Christians, the songs are not entirely
Christian music. Yet they are not afraid to testify their faith. The
mission of Not Quite Kosher is to help others who need them through
their music. The band is hoping that their music would make a difference
in this world and point their listeners to Jesus Christ. The band
is dedicated to bringing wholesome music to their audiences. Not Quite
Kosher’s biggest inspirations came from rock bands Amberlin and Under
Oath.
Not Quite Kosher is now making a demo that includes three songs, “Metaphor,”
“Self-Righteous,” and “Ken’s Song” (it’s the temporary name since
the song is not yet named).
More information about the band can be found on MySpace Music and

JV Boys Soccer: Starting
Fresh
Usually, the boys J.V. roster is filled with quite a few freshmen.
As there is no freshmen soccer team, it is not at all unusual to see
some of Valley's newest students squaring off against some teams,
like Mitty and Bellarmine, who are chock full of sophomores and even
juniors. Naturally, putting freshman and juniors together seems slightly...
unfair. Things are going to be different this year.

Teacher Survey: Most
Embarrassing Holiday Moment?
Embarassing moments happen to everyone. They are not something
you can avoid or prevent, they are just part of life that most people
have learned to accept and shake off. Christmas brings joy but it
can also bring several embarrassing moments that a majority of people
would much rather forget. The events of Christmas such as the putting
up of the Christmas tree, or maybe trying to put together some of
the presents that say "assembly required" can bring those
most memorable Christmas moments.
