Tornados
Rip Through Midwest

by Sarah Reinartz

Just as earthquakes occur in California, and hurricanes in Florida, there are tornadoes in the Midwest. November 12 was an evening of horror for more than one town in Iowa. Stratford and Woodward were the most effected by these monstrosities as they took the impact of the F2-F3 twisters; meaning that there were winds up to 157 miles per hour. It was reported that 8 tornadoes touched down throughout Saturday afternoon and evening. Fortunately, through all of it, there was only one person found dead. This woman was an 84 year-old woman from Stratford, who simply couldn’t make it to the basement in time.
An additional series of tornadoes were recorded on November 6 in a town called Evansville, Indiana. With approximately 23 documented fatalities, it was one of the most severe United States tornadoes since the 1974 “super outbreak” in the state, killing 47 people. The tornado created a path 41 miles long and about a quarter mile wide. At least 18 people were killed at a mobile home park and 4 others were killed in the nearby county of Warrick. The Evansville series produced 6 other confirmed tornadoes throughout the evening of November 5 into the morning of November 6.
During tornado season, the Midwest can be a harsh place to live. But with the 20 plus dead, hundreds injured, and many towns, cities and home destroyed, you wouldn’t guess that it is not technically even tornado season yet. So if the weather is this destructive now, what will it be like when tornado season really does come around?

JV Boys Soccer: Starting Fresh
Usually, the boys J.V. roster is filled with quite a few freshmen. As there is no freshmen soccer team, it is not at all unusual to see some of Valley's newest students squaring off against some teams, like Mitty and Bellarmine, who are chock full of sophomores and even juniors. Naturally, putting freshman and juniors together seems slightly... unfair. Things are going to be different this year.
