Guys And Dolls is a remarkable story about the problems of love. Sky Masterson, a man who is new to New York City, is allegedly a big gambler and meets up with his pal, Nathan Detroit. Nathan tries to win money off of Sky by challenging him to a bet. The bet? Make the next girl who walks by fall in love with him. Since there are always twists in stories with a good plot, the twist in this one is that a Christian missionary from a convent walks by. However, while Nathan is betting on love, he has got some “love-troubles” himself. His fiancée of 14 years, Miss Adelaide, wants him to marry her soon and she doesn’t approve of Nathan’s gambling activities. He in turn doesn’t want to rush or get married at this point in his life. Going on with Sky, he tries to impress the girl, Sarah, and win her over. He talks about the Bible with her and asks her if she has found the right man yet. Her answer? She will let him know when she has found the right man, which obviously means she hasn’t.
Guys And Dolls is this year’s spring musical, and the outcome holds great hope. After 70 students tried out for auditions and open-call auditions, teachers Mr. David Hook and Mr. Matt DeMeritt, along with Mr. Kevin Hammond, have already decided which students get the roles for the show. Mr. DeMeritt said he “admires the talent that the students present." After the long and hard decision of choosing between people, these judges have come to a decision! They assigned roles for two cast lists, one being the “Cards” cast and the other being the “Dice” cast. The role of Adelaide, Nathan Detroit’s fiancé, went to Victoria Rees for the Cards cast and Lauren Mayfield for the Dice cast. Sky Masterson’s role goes to Daniel Huffman for both cast lists. Be sure to attend this dramatic performance in March!
