Once again, the Warrior challenges the students of Valley Christian to answer the theme-based question: What are you for? Christmas is right around the corner, and it is usually a time that people use to reflect not only on their blessings and gifts given to them not only by friends and family, but also by our Lord Jesus Christ.
When asked to define the theme for this school year, many students replied with a similar answer. Senior Jessica Smith responded that this theme “Makes you ask yourself what you are truly for and if you are representing Christ or not.” Representing God is always important, but it holds precedence above many other things during the Christmas season. Senior Tessa Furtado stated that the theme makes people “Figure out what you believe or stand for morally and ethically,” which is very important for Christians to determine while walking with God. Junior Mallory Singley interpreted the theme as “Having a firm belief in what you have an opinion of, and not necessarily going with what the majority believes.”
The passing of beloved 8th grade History teacher Mr. Virgil Lorenz has opened the eyes of many to see the importance of standing firm in our belief of Christ. He indeed is a great example that the rest of the Valley Christian community should look up to during our journey with Jesus. Ephesians 6:14-15 tells us to “Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.” During this Christmas season, I challenge you to reflect upon this verse and upon Mr. Lorenz’s example of what a Christian looks like when he stands firm in what he believes.
