Three VCHS seniors signed national letters of intent on Friday, November 10, 2006. Seniors Kevin Miller, Chana’e Jones, and Carissa Perales all signed to three fabulous schools.
Baseball pitcher Kevin Miller will be attending Cal Berkeley in 2007 on a baseball scholarship. Miller said, “It is nice to know that all the hard work and hours put in played out in a positive way. And then choosing a school in the solid PAC 10, Division I conference makes this choice even better.” Miller started playing baseball at the age of 5 in T-ball and has been playing since then, for a total of 12 years. He plays on more than one travel team, but the team he recalls the most is the San Jose Renegades which he started playing on at the age of 11. He has been on varsity baseball for the past 3 years.
Softball shortstop Chana’e Jones will be attending the University of Oklahoma in 2007. Jones said, “This was very exciting for me to receive this great opportunity and I am looking forward to going away and continuing my softball career. The ceremony on Friday went very well. The Athletic Department did an excellent job providing such a wonderful celebration.” Jones first had a ball in her hand at the age of 3 and then started to play baseball and then went on to play softball. She also plays on the San Jose Sting softball club team with Perales. Jones loves the game of softball and is really looking forward to attending the University of Oklahoma. She has been on the varsity squad for the past 3 years.
Outfielder Carissa Perales will be going away to Ohio State to continue playing softball as well. Perales said, “I was very impressed with the ceremony Coach Scharrenberg and staff provided. They did a great job and I am really excited about getting this scholarship and I am looking forward to going away and attending this wonderful school.” Perales has been playing softball since she was about 6 years old. She also plays for the San Jose Sting softball club. Perales has been on the varsity softball team for the past 3 years. Perales has put in a lot of effort and when she goes off to Ohio State she will continue to strive to do her best.
Valley Christian and these three seniors celebrated their honor with a ceremony in the VC Board Room with families, teachers/staff, and of course, their friends. This was a very exciting time for these athletes who have worked very hard to accomplish these goals. They are going to these top ranked schools to continue playing the sports they love.
