Excited and Ready, the Champions are Back For Another Year

by Christina Khosrowabadi and Monica Ramirez

This year the varsity girls soccer team kicked off the winter season with extensive conditioning and training. Coach Jolene Keel pushes the girls to reach their limits and beyond. As their season begins with a new theme of sacrifice, the girls are now ready to push themselves towards victory.

Last year the girls pulled out all their stops earning the title of Division III CCS Champions. They overcame many hardships and were able to come out on top with a lot of teamwork. The ladies have strong ambitions for victory and are planning to pass any obstacles that will come their way. Senior starter Stephanie Patterson said, “The team has a close bond that is unbreakable. This bond that we share is what helps us to beat our competition.” The Lady Warriors are ready to defeat all rivals that set foot on the soccer field.

The team’s opening home game against Live Oak ended up with a huge shutout. Sophomore Emily von Raesfeld powered three goals into the net, securing their win. Coach Keel said, “The girls played as a team, moving the ball with ease. We are looking forward to a good season.” Their second game proved to be a challenge as they battled it out against Fresno and ended the game with a tie, which was hard to see after all their hard work and dedication. Much like their game against Fresno, the Lady Warriors faced another difficult game. Their confidence in each other did not bring them down but instead led them to come out on top yet again. The final score of 1 to 0 in favor of the Warriors boosted their enthusiasm for the remaining season.
