Christmas break had just ended, meaning the worst time of everyone’s life. But not for Delgado.
On January 10, senior Katie Delgado’s pain from her incurable disease (RSD) was healed. This three-year pain has stunned doctors and everyone who knows of Delgado.
As of the summer of Katie’s soon to be sophomore year, she was diagnosed with RSD, short for Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. “It’s like placing lighter fluid in the body through the blood stream and lighting it on fire,” Delgado explained her pain. The intensity of the pain was the cause of her dropping her junior year in high school. Along with the pain came short-term memory loss, depression, and the incapability of doing anything other than lying in bed.
“I began overdosing on prescription drugs. I was literally stoned 24/7,” Katie stated, “I lost tons of friends because of it.”
She chose to take up her senior year with three classes, limiting her time out of bed. “All I ever did was cry all day,” claimed Delgado. She only received one, maybe two hours of sleep at night, but even though she could hardly live a life, her only choice was to accept it and make the best of it.
Senior Paula Coney prayed for Delgado at the time of healing. “My dad told me a week before I told Katie ‘when you lay hands on people and because of your faith and their faith, the Holy Spirit will meet you there, and they will be healed.’” Paula could first feel Katie’s leg shaking and then heat. Eventually the shaking made it through both her legs and arms and through her entire body.
“I don’t feel anything,” Delgado explained. It was then that Delgado ran to Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto to explain her no-pain and asked for explanations. Doctors, nurses and literally anybody who heard her story was literally stunned. Two of the Stanford nurses even came to the Lord after understanding there was no explanation to the situation except a miracle.
Delgado’s life has, without doubt, changed dramatically. “He gives miracles to change the lives of those around us,” Delgado continued to explain the emotional joy she can now enjoy, “I appreciate walking ten times more.”
Katie Delgado continues to live pain-free.
