"A MOMENT LIKE THIS"
Colin Maher and Weynab Admassu are crowned 2005 Winter
Homecoming King and Queen

“A Moment Like This:” From the starry invitations to the dreamy atmosphere of the dance location, everything at the 2005 Winter Ball fit the theme created by ASB. This year’s dance was held on February 5 the Winter Ball’s new home, the Decathlon Club. Some people had their doubts about the Winter Ball’s change from the Fairmont to the Decathlon Club, but overall the dance was held successfully at the new place in Santa Clara. Not only was dance admission less expensive, starting at only fifty dollars per ticket, but the club had indoor ponds and fountains, making a great opportunity for scenic pictures.

Upon arriving at the Decathlon Club, students were greeted by Valley’s devoted security guards, including the friendly brothers, Mike and Martin Smith. After entering the club, students checked in under Ms. Campbell and Mr. Machado’s watchful eyes, and proceeded into the dance. Desserts like tiramisu and cheesecake were set up on a table at the far end of the dining area, and were surrounded by tables, where guests could sit to sip Shirley Temples and take a break from dancing. continued in news...

VARSITY BASKETBALL SURPRISES WCAL
Boys standing tall with victories over Serra, Bellarmine

With the first half of league competition in the rear-view mirror, the varsity boys basketball team turned their attention toward the season’s final month. Riding the momentum of a six-game winning streak, the Warriors have moved from the middle of the WCAL pack and into a first place tie with Junipero Serra.

Stuck in fourth place in league with a 3-3 record, the team hosted Archbishop Riordan on January 21. Just a game back of the Crusaders in the league, the Warriors came out inspired and ferocious on both ends of the floor. Valley held a solid lead throughout the game, and won comfortably, 55-41, moving into a tie for third place. Traveling to Bellarmine on January 26, the Warriors refused to back down. Knowing it would take a special effort, the team provided enough power to ring the Bells. continued in news...
