Movie Review: Phantom
of the Opera
By Deanna De La Cruz
Phantom of the Opera was
a delightful adaptation of the musical composed by Andrew Lloyd
Webber.
Phantom of the Opera is about a phantom that continues to terrorize
the owners and cast of the French Opera House as well as teach
a beautiful young girl, Christine, to sing better than any female
lead before her.
Christine receives the chance to be the lead one night, and she
mesmerizes the audience with her hauntingly beautiful voice. Her
voice not only entrances the crowd, it also catches the attention
of her old sweetheart, Raoul, the Vicomte de Chagny.
After the show, Christine is visited by Raoul, and the feelings
they once had for each other ignite again. Of course, the phantom
of the opera overhears their conversation and becomes instantly
jealous of Raoul, as he too is in love with Christine. The phantom’s
presence at the French Opera House becomes increasingly malevolent
as he realizes that his love for Christine is unrequited. The
phantom takes it upon himself to unleash terror on the opera house
like never before, and plots to make Christine his forever. Does
the phantom get the girl and a happy ending, or does the tale
end in tragedy for everyone? You’ll have to see the movie
to find out!
All in all, Phantom of the Opera is an excellent movie that should
not be missed by anyone who enjoys musicals or those who enjoy
movies about the intricacies of love and romance. The music of
the Phantom of the Opera is hauntingly beautiful and is beautifully
composed to evoke the audience’s emotions and create a sense
of empathy for the phantom and his quest for finding love at last.
