Spotlight
Athlete: Mike Cussary
By Heather Heise
This month’s Spot
Light Athlete comes from the boys varsity basketball team; he
is senior Mike Cussary. Mike has been attending Valley Christian
Schools since his freshman year, and has been playing basketball
since the age of 12. Cussary played basketball as a freshman,
and then his sophomore year he played J.V. As a junior Mike made
the varsity team and is well into his second season. Not only
has Cussary developed into a skilled ball player, but a man of
Christ. Coach Dan Meester stated, “Cussary is intense, reliable
and dedicated. When I look at where Mike has come from, his change
in skill has been unbelievable, the one thing that stands out
is his intensity when he gets in the game; he has a little bulldog
mentality.”
Mike has maintained a 3.8 GPA and hopes to attend Point Loma Nazarene
University in the fall. We congratulate Mike as all of his hard
work and dedication is paying off. We look forward to seeing more
improvement and all that the Lord will be doing in his life. Good
luck with the season and congratulations Mike Cussary for becoming
the January 2005 Spot Light Athlete.
