Fall Sports Season in
Review
By Steven Giordano
The fall sports season has
come and gone. For many Valley Christian opponents, this was a
relief. The Warriors were consistently competitive in most of
these autumn athletic events.
For many, the fall season is the beginning of a new chance to
accomplish what they could not do, or just did not do, the year
before. They push harder and practice longer. Many of the fall
VC sports teams did not wait for the early school mornings to
get underway before they began practicing; most had been well
into their training and workouts weeks and even months before
the first kickoff, starting pistol, first whistle, or whatever
else is used to commence the competition. Here are some comings
and goings of the 2004 Valley Christian fall sports season.
1. Cross Country
Ø Boys were led by Justin Cates, Kole Tanouye, and Kenny
Guertin into WCAL marathons. While
not many “wins” were racked up, the team improved
greatly as a team being very competitive in each event.
Ø Girls had slightly more statistical success. Gaining
more points at each event. They had
Senior and running leadership from Rachel O’Hara, Alex Farrokhian,
and Marisol Sarabia.
2. Girls Tennis
Ø Girls varsity tennis team was headed by first year coach
Gaye McLaughlin.
These girls gained some of their first team wins in the previous
few years.
3. Girls Volleyball
Ø A dream season for the girls varsity volleyball team
was concluded by a heartbreaking
loss to Presentation in five games. Led by captains Haley Carrol
and Ashley Anders,
these Lady Warriors were very impressive and probably deserved
to move on in CCS.
4. Water Polo
Ø Boys varsity water polo led by example practicing three
days a week before school.
One highlight was the team’s commitment to shave their heads
after vowing to
defeat St. Igantius back on October 28.
Ø Girls varsity team highlighted their season by sweeping
the Wilcox Tournament
with five straight wins. This was the first time in Valley Christian
girls water polo history.
5. Football
Ø Last, but certainly not least, is the 2004 Open Division
CCS football champions.
With a convincing 35-14 win over the number two Los Gatos Wildcats,
VC football reached their goal.
The Warriors finished the regular season nearly perfect with just
one loss.
The fall sports season will
have to wait until next year. Winter sports, and even a few spring
sports, are well under way. The Warriors’ fall sports teams
represented the school very well and have great expectations for
next year and farther.
