Ah-nold Addresses CA
By Erin Parker

On January 5, 2006 Arnold Schwarzenegger addressed the state of California to announce plans for the new year.
He began by apologizing for the many mistakes that he had made last year. “Now it’s true that I was in too much of a hurry,” stated Schwarzenegger. “I didn’t hear the majority of Californians when they were telling me they didn’t like the special election. I barreled ahead anyway when I should have listened.”
For 2006, the governor realizes that people are interested in lower welfare and improvements in California education among other issues. The suggestion was made to make long-term investments. Costs for reconstruction in California is over 500 billion dollars in the next 20 years. The money will be directed into transportation, air quality, education, water and flood control, public safety, and courts.
In addition to the new projects the governor hopes to accomplish, he also raised the minimum wage by one dollar. Remembering Proposition 98, 2.3 billion dollars will be put back into school systems.
Governor Schwarzenegger ended his speech with encouragement for people to support families, communities, and the state. “Let us commit to building California,” he stated, “so that the dream can remain alive for this generation, for the next generation, and for generations to come.”
