Freshmen Girls on Fire
By Becky Wu

Freshman basketball girls are on fire! They are undefeated in first place under the leadership of captains Kelsey Byrd and Jazzmyne Ross.
The team has maintained its aggressiveness since the start of the season. They easily defeated St. Francis 38-16, Mitty 31-20, St. Ignatius 43-32, and Sacred Heart Cathedral 52-28. The game against Presentation last Wednesday was a bit rough, but the girls kept their position. They lost a bit of focus during the first quarter; but quickly returned to beat Presentation 49-22. Freshmen coach Richard Harris said, “ They jumped out too early in the first quarter, but we redeemed ourselves in the second quarter, which was good. It was overall a great game, a great team effort, everyone got to play and contribute.” The frosh girls played second place team Notre Dame and remained undefeated with a score of 34-19. Ross said, “ We have a great defense, we work hard and we play hard.”
Byrd is lead scorer with a total of 143 points, and an average of 14.3 points per game. Ross, following in second, scored a total of 72 points with an average of 7.2 points per game. Amy Griffith has a total of 61 points and an average of 6.1 per game. Griffith said, “ I love playing basketball, it’s just a fun sport.”
