Girls Varsity
Hoops Team Takes on State Powers
By Becky Wu

Going further into the season,
the varsity girls are playing with even more intensity and aggressiveness
than before. Senior captain Lacey Banks, who
has scored a total of 138 points, said, “ Although we recently
had a tough week, the same week is preparing us for the future
games and especially the playoffs.”
During that hard week for the girls, they played against 3 of
the top 4 teams in WCAL: St. Ignatius, Sacred Heart Cathedral,
and Presentation. Unfortunately the scoreboard did not work their
way, even though the team played with intensity. Several questionable
calls from the referee and exhaustion from the game built up their
frustration. The girls, however, restored their confidence and
played with determination and against Notre Dame and won the game
with the score of 51-41. Junior point guard, Torey Walker
and senior Hayley Abbot became the leading scorers
of the game with Walker scoring 20 points and Abbot with 11 points.
Walker had now scored a total of 197 points since the beginning
of the season and following closely is Abbot with a total of 149
points. “The difficult week playing 3 of the top 4 teams in CCS,
was very competitive. I expect our team to play with more togetherness
and force in the upcoming games. I’m remaining positive in league
and playoff,” stated head coach Greg Marshall.
Sophomore Jill Singletary who was injured last
week during one of the game said, “Right now my shoulder is out
of place, I can’t play for three weeks but I’m the team’s best
supporter. I’m very positive and I am looking forward to being
back.” Sophomore Dahlys Marshall exclaimed, “I
love being a part of our team because we are inspired to work
hard and always have great attitudes!”
There will be more exciting games coming up throughout the weeks
and Valley students are encouraged to come out and support the
Valley Christian Warriors. Abbot said, “This year’s team is exciting
to watch win or lose. We play fast and physical and have a lot
of fun on the court. We are also getting better this week; come
check us out!”

Winter Ball
As guys scrounge up the nerve to ask that special girl to Winter
Ball, girls are spending their time in dress shops looking for
that perfect dress. The worst-case scenario would be for a girl
to walk into Decathlon and see another girl wearing the same dress.
The only way to avoid this terrible situation is to buy a one
of a kind dress from a smaller less popular dress store.
