JV Girls Get Tough
by Ryan Eshoff

In all of Northern California, there is no stronger output of lower-level girls basketball than the West Catholic Athletic League. This year’s J.V. girls are experiencing the toughness, both mental and physical, that it takes to compete in the WCAL.
The return of sophomore Morgan Allen from injury leaves the squad with high hopes for the remainder of the season. Under the guidance of former varsity assistant Dennis Brown, the team features a wealth of sophomore talent, including key contributors Monica Jackson, Sandra Kreitem, and Sarah Johnson. After a commendable 5-6 preseason, the team entered league play as a heavy underdog. In the first week of WCAL play, the girls fell to St. Francis by a 51-27 score, and were outlasted by Sacred Heart Prep, 42-30. Johnson and Allen led the team with their impressive inside-out combination.
Facing a week of intense competition against the league’s best, the girls devoted themselves to hard work. Starting off the trio of games against Mitty, the Lady Warriors just did not have enough, falling to the Monarchs 54-38. The team were given no breaks, next matching up against the undefeated St. Ignatius Wildcats, who were victorious 45-16. Finishing off the week against another league power, Sacred Heart Cathedral, the ladies again came up a little short against the Irish, 46-24.

Winter Ball
As guys scrounge up the nerve to ask that special girl to Winter Ball, girls are spending their time in dress shops looking for that perfect dress. The worst-case scenario would be for a girl to walk into Decathlon and see another girl wearing the same dress. The only way to avoid this terrible situation is to buy a one of a kind dress from a smaller less popular dress store.
