A league title doesn’t always mean success; especially on a team when the group is tight and where great memories mean more than the stats. The memories of friends bonding, and also the constant hard work and desire to excel came together to form a Junior Varsity Girls Soccer team that finished their season last week with a feeling of success, and a season well played.
The triumph of this yearís team is in their perseverance and strength, and in their uncanny ability to laugh all the way through the hard times. All of the freshmen rose to the occasion and the sophomores led the way as the team battled through the tough WCAL The team was also faced with many injuries and had to overcome the panic of a dwindling player count. But they pressed on. The healthy players competed- giving all to the team- and the injured players showed up at practices and games to support. All together the team worked hard and gave their all to each game despite hard losses, and always in hope of one more well deserved win.
When asked whether she was glad the soccer season was over, freshman Lindsay Pund replied with a quick, “No!” Lindsay said that she missed the team already and it had only been two days! Sophomore CJ Wrye recapped the season by saying that this year has been extremely fun- all of the pasta dinners bonded us as a team and helped us become a family. Even though we didn’t win very many games everybody improved their skills and we became better players.”
Coaches Adam Gill and Jill Carlson are glad that they had a chance to coach such a wonderful group of soccer players. They had a great experience and know that even though the girls now have more free time, the that time they spent on the team was definitely not wasted.
