JV Baseball

For many athletes, they
have been looking forward to spring sports including baseball.
For these guys, its all about baseball!
The JV baseball season has kicked off as of Saturday, February
12, with their first game against the Gilroy Mustangs. Ben Moreno
had two doubles and a triple leading the team to a 15-2 win over
the mustangs. That game set the pace for the following game. Their
second victim was Menlo, on Friday March 4. The team pulled through
with an easy win beating Menlo 11-2.
Although the team was doing so well they had to face the hardest
competition yet, St. Mary’s, who is known for being a powerhouse
in many sports including baseball. Daniel Hall had the best hit
of the day for Valley; a fly to left field. The team worked hard,
but ended coming up short. It was a tough loss, but they will
bounce back in the next game.
The team has an excellent work ethic. They work everyday after
school to improve their baseball skills, and to stay in top shape
in order to compete in the West Catholic Athletic League. Tommy
Burns says “ We are definitely going to get those T-shirts”,
that is an inside joke between the teammates, because the champions
of the Wilcox tournament get T-shirts. The tournament is over
Spring break and they are working hard to make sure they win.
The two coaches Scott Reeves and Eddie Moore are also working
long hours prepare the team for a tough schedule that they will
face this year due to the high level of competition in the WCAL.
The team is looking strong to compete after the tedious practices
and hard work they show on the baseball diamond.
