JV softball has started
off the season with a 2-win streak in the scrimmage against Santa
Clara, and the unofficial game against King’s Academy. After
winning 7-6 against Santa Clara, and winning 9-1 against King’s
Academy, the girls are ready to dominate their season. Unfortunately
they have also recorded a 4-0 loss against St. Francis.
Laura Forrest, varsity pitcher, came down to JV to help out on
February 24 in the scrimmage against Santa Clara. After hitting
a triple, and due to the center fielder making a wild throw into
the pitcher, Forrest’s triple quickly turned into a home
run. Forrest also pitched the Warriors into a win, making it apparent
that her extra bit of skill was a handy tool in assisting the
girl’s win. Throughout the scrimmage, triples by Sarah Reinartz,
the Warrior’s shortstop, and Stephanie Olsen, second base,
also helped to push them into the lead.
The (unofficial) game on March 1 against King’s Academy
was a success as well, with the assistance of varsity pitcher,
Alex Galusha In the March 9 (unofficial) game against Pioneer,
VC was victorious yet again winning the game 12-1. With the aid
of Ashley Frost, varsity pitcher, the girl’s were able to
pull through with almost a complete shutout against Pioneer.
The girls are maintaining a great season so far with the help
of varsity pitchers and pure talent that they have represented
this year. “We have a great bunch of girls out here to play
this season. I have seen great potential and great attitudes along
with a lot of skill, and I expect this season to be a major success,”
commented VC’s catcher, Amanda Klein. The girls’ success
can also be credited to head coach Jessica Brady. “Brady
is a great coach, she can be tough when needed, but being on her
team is so much fun because she is such an admirable coach and
in the end, all the hard work from practice is worth it because
we do better in the games,” remarked right fielder, Alex
Boulware.
Playing St. Francis on March 15 ended up a loss for Valley, but
at the same time, a well played game. Defensively, the girls definitely
came out winners, the only thing keeping them from the win was
their bats. “We could’ve easily beat St. Francis if
we had hit the ball more. I am confident that we can beat them
next time,” commented Reinartz. Having good attitudes and
good defense definitely made them winners in that game in God’s
eyes.
The Warriors look forward to a great season ahead, with good sportsmanship
and worthy victories. Brady stated, “I have seen a great
deal more talent out here then I have seen during the last couple
years that I have been coaching this program. We are really excited
about the ability this team has to win this season.”
