VC RUGBY
By Nick Richards
On Saturday March 5th the
Valley Christian rugby club played their third game of the season
against Silicon Valley. The rugby club played with much heart
and enthusiasm. The head coach of the Rugby team Mike Annab said
that the Valley Christian rugby club continued to control the
scrum. The scrums where anchored well by the Props. The locks
in the game brought great stability to the scrum. Also the hooker
had excellent hooking in the scrum. All of these made the scrum
powerfully effective.
Coach Mike Annab said that the rugby club still needs to work
on defense and rucks. Even with that said the coach said, the
rugby club has rarely had any penalties called on them. This shows
that the members of the club really know how to play the game
and are playing it well. He also said there is a lot of potential
from the team. Most of the players from the rugby club are coming
back next year.
After the game, the Valley Christian rugby club and the Silicon
Valley club set aside their differences and came together to have
a talk about the game. Members from Silicon Valley elected the
top players of the match from the Valley Christian team. The top
players that were chosen for the forwards was Ben Jones who plays
in the position as prop. The top player of the match who was chosen
for the backs was Andrew Decker who play’s the position
as scrum half. After the top players were announced by the teams
both the Valley Christian coach and the Silicon Valley coach gave
both teams an encouraging talk. After the coaches said what they
wanted to say each team congratulated each other. After that the
Valley Christian rugby club invited the Silicon Valley team to
have some food and fellowship and talk about rugby. The next rugby
game is March 26 against Los Altos at Valley Christian. The time
is still to be announced.
