VC Aquatics: Varsity Boys Swim Hard to Close Season

by Ryan Gray

As the season has come to end the Warriors reflected on the all the hard work and camaraderie over the past season. League and CCS is what the season built up to, taking what you have learned and putting it into action to produce a top performance and best time. During those last practices of the season, the swimmers had tapered. Tapering is when the swimmers have fewer yardage and focus more on critiquing the their technique.

Against the Serra Padres, the Warriors continued their win streak, defeating the Padres 92-78. During this difficult and close meet, the Warriors produced many top times and swam with great determination.

However, it was an unfortunate turn of events in the Warriors’ next meet against Sacred Heart Prep. Another close meet, the boys were unable to emerge victorious with a final score of Valley Christian- 85, Sacred Heart Prep- 98.

Refocused and determined the Warriors came back strong the next week on April 27, with a strong victory over Archbishop Mitty. The boys came together and swam hard to earn a 100.5 to 82.5 over the Monarchs.

Many of the Warrior Boys made CCS cuts and competed on Friday May 12, and Saturday May 13. Trials were on Friday and those who made top sixteen competed again on Saturday. Seniors Andrew Kikuta, Ryan Gray¸ and Abram Coetsee competed on both days. Additionally Junior Matt Smith, Sophomores Kevin P., Aiden Lenihan, and Freshmen Nick Kikuta and Michael Langdon. Both A. Kikuta and Kevin P. received All-American for the performance on Saturday. Overall, the Warriors placed eighth out of forty.
