Despite the difficulties and delays with getting the show on the road, Shadow and Light was a great success. With opening night being Friday, May 5, 2006 at 3pm, dancers quickly left class to make their call time. Mrs. Autumn Mortenson, the dance arts teacher, had been preparing for this show all year. She teaches seven classes with a total of 92 students consisting of Jazz, Tap, and Hip Hop. The show encompassed controversial themes such as racism, abortion, individualism, heaven, God’s glory and love.

Junior Misha Cummings said, “This is my third year in dance and I thoroughly enjoy it. The best part about dance is the end of the year when it comes time to do the dance shows. Yes, it is a lot of hard work but it is definitely worth it.”

Sophomore Azlyn Mccain has been dancing for fifteen years. “This is my second year being a part of Valley Christian’s Dance Arts program and I love it. If any one is not in a dance class this year, I encourage them to join next year.” Sophomore Catherine Simmonds took dance for her very first time this year and she said, “Mrs. Mortenson made dance a class to look forward to.”

Junior Lucas Paule came to see the show on Saturday May 6. His comments about the show were, “It was awesome. You could tell that a lot of hard work was put into the show. My favorite part was the Janet Jackson dance with the music video in the back.”

All the dancers would like to thank all the techies, Mr. and Mrs. Mendolia, and Dave for all of their hard work. If it weren’t for them, this show would not have run as successfully as it did.
