To have an efficient dorm, you must first have the right items. A refrigerator and a microwave are a must. College is a busy life and food will be the last thing on your mind. Having a fridge to store food and a microwave to heat food will be very useful and convenient.
Keeping your room clean and smelling fresh is good hygiene. Do not throw your dirty laundry or your trash on the ground. Buy a hamper and place your dirty clothes in there. Also, do your laundry on a regular basis. Do not be lazy. After doing your laundry, hang your clothes on hangers. Lastly, to keep your room fresh and smelling good, get a plug in freshener. These fresheners can be bought at Target for a mere $5.00.
Remember, you are sharing a room with another person meaning you have a limited space. Do not bring all of your clothes, just bring clothes for the season, and when you go home for Christmas, take all of your fall clothes home and bring your winter clothes back. Shoes can be space consuming. Buy a shoe hanger that you can hang behind your door.
Talk to your roommate before hand and share the cost between the two of you. If your roommate is bringing the television, then you can bring the DVD/VCR player. If you are bringing the microwave, then have your roommate bring the refrigerator. Your dorm is now your new home for the school year. Make it a place you want to come back to instead of a small smelly place you do not want to be in.
