Big Mac or Whopper?
McDonald's Breakfast or Waking Up with the King?

by Sarah Reinartz
“Which one?” This is a question that people may often find themselves asking one another when it comes to a fast meal at a cheap price. McDonald’s or Burger King? These two major competitors in the fast food industry have been battling it out for people’s business for many years. It is still unsure which one is really better. If you ask some people they say that they prefer McDonald’s for their low priced value meals and tasty Big Mac’s. Others say that they much prefer Burger King to McDonald’s because of their crispy French fries and famous milk shakes.
Both McDonald’s and Burger King have added a more “healthy” approach to fast food as well. They have both added their own version of salads and light calorie foods. McDonald’s often advertises their low fat Asian salad (grilled or crispy chicken), California Cobb salad (grilled or crispy chicken), Caesar salad (grilled or crispy chicken) and their bacon ranch salad (grilled or crispy chicken) to attract even those who are on diets. Through this, they receive more business because they are bringing in people anywhere from dieters, children, adults, teens and those with a short budget.
McDonald’s also offers a variety of different types of chicken and fish sandwiches so that people aren’t loaded down with just burgers. Finally, there are the famous chicken McNuggets made with “real white meat,” (which we all know by now is not really “real white meat”). Although their food is popular all around the world, it is also popularly unhealthy. Everything on the menu consists of sandwiches containing anywhere from 200 to over 1,000 calories! (Including soft drinks and sauces). Then again, that is why it is considered “fast food,” not “healthy food.”
As for Burger King, its popularity increase can be dedicated to their hamburgers, crispy French fries, and milkshakes. They have also added new fat-free or low fat foods to their menu including veggie burgers, non-fat mayonnaise and salads. An upside to Burger King’s franchise is that there is nothing on their menu that goes over 1,000 calories. That is clearly less than McDonald’s.
Based on food quality, price, and convenience, McDonald’s and Burger King will continue their battle for popularity. However, let’s leave it up to you to decide: McDonald’s or Burger King?
