Who will be the best leader for San Jose?

by Brittany Brinkman
Mayoral elections are approaching for San Jose on June 6, 2006. There are five top candidates running for San Jose Mayor, and only one will receive the esteemed title.
Chuck Reed is one of the candidates running for mayor. He is a current San Jose city councilman since 2000. He believes that, "Our children, seniors and other residents deserve better and safer schools and neighborhoods." Reed wants to put more money into San Jose schools, and also hire more fire fighters and police officers to keep the city safe. Chuck Reed emphasizes his very strong morals. He wishes to bring honesty back to politics, which will in turn make the people trust the government, more.
Dave Cortese is a born and raised Californian. He has been a councilman for five years and has served two terms on the school board. Cortese vows to find the funding to make sure every high school student will have a legitimate chance of being at or above grade level by the time they're sophomores in high school. He does not believe that it is ok for the government to lie to the people. Cortese ensures that if he is voted into office that he will be honest.
Cindy Chavez is the current Vice Mayor of San Jose. She attended San Jose State University and has been a long time resident of San Jose. Chavez has many supporters, but there are some rumors that some of her actions are questionable. Cindy Chavez wants to remove herself from the legacy of Ron Gonzales.
Michael Mulcahy is not like many of the other candidates. He is not a politician. He has never served on the city council, instead he is a well known real estate investor. Mulcahy thinks that, "the mayor has to be the No. 1 salesperson and cheerleader for the city.î" His supporters see his inexperience in politics as a plus for he will not be influenced by past political baggage.
David Pandori was a city council member and is currently the deputy district attorney. His biggest stance is against gang violence in San Jose. He is committed to getting the San Jose community back on track and away from corrupted politics.
These are the candidates in the mayoral race. All candidates are well qualified and ready to become San Jose's mayor.
