by Allie Perry

This year’s annual ASB Talent Show on Monday May 9 proved an impressive display of skill, with  some hilarious hosting by  emcees Mr. Steve Torode and senior Jake Viramontez

The show started at 7:00 p.m. in the main gym with sophomore Larry Lin playing the famous "Moonlight Sonata" on the piano.  Freshman Olivia Reason sang If I Ain't Got You by Alicia Keys.  After Reason came senior Blake Anderson, who played his original composition Ledrelyen, inspired by the heroine of his newly-published fantasy novel, The Dragonheroes.  Junior Yuma Sung wove his stunning keyboard skills between performances accompanied by senior Michael Davis on the drums. Last year's Adams & the Federalists, led by senior Ian Perry returned for another show of masterful jazz. After the band's performance, Jake Viramontez presented an  an inspiring slide show about ministries in Africa, helping the the needy and and starving.  Senior Derrick Mearis followed with a captivating solo, "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban.  An amazing Tai Kwon Do act followed, which included seemingly impossible stunts. These performers awed the crowd with their body-contorting turns, flips, and jumps.

The last performers, The Hat Shoppe, was led by senior Abram Coetsee as they covered Led Zeppelin's Heatbreaker. Senior Eric Stashak did his great Jimmy Page act as he tore through his guitar.  After the show, awards were presented to the most talented performers.  Blake Anderson took first place for his amazing piano piece and his successful book.  Abram Coetsee's band took second, with Derrick Mearis coming in third.
