College can be a very intimidating environment, however with the right involvement in the different opportunities college has to offer, becoming settled should be a smooth transition for the incoming freshmen.
With a new campus as well as the challenge of making entirely new friends, college provides a way for students to move out of their comfort zone. Although this transition away from home is a challenge, students need to adjust to their new life to become successful.
The first few ways to become prepared for the next four years that follow is to make sure that classes are in order. Even though some classes may seem like a challenge at first, don’t completely give up on them. They may turn out to be a favorite class. For some majors including engineering or teaching, there are so many classes required that in order to keep up with everything students will need to begin taking these classes freshmen year. By keeping up with the curriculum required, freshmen are on their way to becoming the best students possible.
Other things to include on the “to do” list would be to attend the freshmen introduction meetings. They will provide valuable information about class schedules as well as activities to do in campus life. One thing to remember about being on a college campus is that there are many opportunities available. There is no need to rush into them because they are there. Take the time to observe different clubs and choose one to put a lot of time in. College is not like high school. It is almost impossible to juggle ten different activities at once.
Intramural sports are a way to become active while in the college atmosphere. They are way to be involved in enjoyable sports while not being extremely competitive. It enables students to meet new people who are interested in similar sports that may not have been available in the high school community.
By surrounding themselves in encouraging environments, college will allow students to grow from the moment they set foot on campus.
