Clothing Ourselves With
Good Virtues
The Monthly Devotional
by Alisa Walsh
Colossians 3:12-14 “Therefore,
as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves
with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have
against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over
all these virtues put on love which binds them all together in
perfect unity.”
Drama in high school is notoriously
present, and, as some would say, unavoidable. Girls think too
much of one situation, (did you see the way she looked at me?
She hates me...I know it) while guys tend to not think enough
of one action or another (What? I didn’t mean to hold her
hand, it just happened!).
Yes, I have had my fair share of drama over the years, but am
now fortunate enough to posses some vital skills that enable me
to steer clear. For one, when gossip reaches my end of the school,
I merely reply, “That’s cool,” maybe offer a
little advice, then end it right there. I don’t run off
to the next person I see and tell them what Sally did on Friday
night or what Marge said about Gladys. We all know that here at
Valley Christian, gossip spreads like wildfire. Not only does
this effect the persons involved, but can also result in the administration
having to take action, which never ends up with happy people.
If we truly want to stop all this nonsense, then take Colossians
3:12 to heart; clothe yourselves with compassion and kindness.
Be aware that just because you may not be everyone’s best
friend but it does not mean that you can’t treat everyone
with the kindness and respect they deserve.
I know that this advice is easier said than done, however. There
are instances where things tend to get a little out of hand and
friendships get broken. Instead of dwelling on what should have
happened (or what didn’t happen that should have), remember
that in the long run, it is not what’s going on that is
remembered, but the people who you share your happiest moments
with that make the memories great. The Lord says to forgive. Forgive
not only for His sake, but for yours as well. Just think of all
the fun times you could be missing out on if Bob or Lucy were
no longer in your life. So, in conclusion, make a difference in
school. Stay out of drama and forgive those who need forgiveness,
whether they choose to accept it or not is up to them.
