HOMECOMING!
Sprinkles of rain overshadowed by day's festivities

In keeping with Valley Christian’s
Homecoming tradition, the game on Saturday, October 23 was a huge
success, regardless of the weatherman’s forecast.
By the end of the JV football game, the time had come for each
class to show their school spirit. First order of business: class
floats. The freshmen took Valley “Down Under,” displaying
a Warrior kangaroo battling a St. Ignatius Wildcat kangaroo. The
sophomores went “Under Construction” with their neatly
arranged mess of plywood and caution tape created by the “carpenters.”
With the most inventive creation, the juniors went “Under
Cover” to win first place in the float competition with
scenes ranging from Alias to 006 to even Inspector Gadget. The
mermaids, crabs, and sea urchins of the senior class came in close
second, with their aquatic “Under the Sea” float.
Next came the Homecoming court, huddling under their umbrellas
as raindrops began to fall. In cars driven by the court’s
fathers, freshmen Allison Chamblis and Wes Norris were followed
by sophomores Tami Villa and Adam Walls. Juniors Aimee D’Hondt
and Phong Huynh preceded senior nominees Sogol Navai and Kyle
Bergland, Amy Syres and Daniel Gaul, and Kiersten Tamura and Ryan
Pickering. Last year’s king Drew Ramsey and queen Rachel
Townsend came out to crown the 2004 Homecoming King and Queen,
Amy Syres and Daniel Gaul.
Halftime brought even more entertainment as the band and color
guard took the field. The routine had been perfected over weeks
of dedicated practice, and was performed flawlessly, with the
only quirk being king Daniel Gaul’s uniform being replaced
by a black tuxedo.
The cheerleaders came next, with several ex-cheer girls joining
this year’s squad, including last year’s squad members
Jenna Battaglia, Ashleigh Ferrante, Dalena-Marie Larson, Selena
Ma, and Laurie Stribling, alumni Monica Chavez and Kaleigh Marshall,
and rookie Haley Yoder. The girls came out pumped up, and no one
could deny that the performance was nothing short of amazing.
With every stunt, the entire audience was on the edge of their
seat as girls were thrown high into the air and caught gracefully.
Clearly, the Warriors proved that a few raindrops on homecoming
day weren’t enough to dampen anyone’s fun.
