Restaurant Review: The
Coop
By Taryn Gifford
Originally, this month’s
restaurant review was an excuse for an outing for the Journalism
II class. As your editors, we feel it is our responsibility to
give you a broad variety of reviews and such. So, on October 28
a few of us editors headed to the Chicken Coop. Yes, we went to
the Sonoma Chicken Coop. To some, this may sound like and unappealing
name for a restaurant. Honestly, most probably picture a farmyard
and hay and chickens. However, The Sonoma Chicken Coop is really
an affordable restaurant in San Pedro Square downtown San Jose
that features, well, a menu centered around chicken dishes as
well as some great desserts.
As there were scheduling conflicts, only four of us were able
to attend last Thursday, but we still had a variety of food to
sample. Our very own Robby Valderrama chose the BLT sandwich,
Amanda Belz ordered the walnut salad, I went for the barbecue
chicken personal pizza, and Alisa Walsh opted for the chocolate
fondue to appeal to her sweet tooth. We ordered our food and sat
down on the patio outside, warmed by an outdoor heater. The food
came quickly, within about ten minutes, and the presentation was
still superb. For instance, Alisa’s fondue came with a variety
of cookies, fruit, and even ice cream to dip into dark chocolate,
which was warmed from underneath by a candle. My pizza came with
a little tomato flower on it (don’t ask me how you make
a tomato flower, it’s beyond me) and Amanda’s salad
came with a purple orchid adorning it. Unfortunately, both of
our cameras were out of batteries, so we were unable to capture
the presentation of the food, but we each spent under $10.00 for
food and drinks and everything was very pretty and super yummy.
Overall, even with the technical difficulties, a good time was
had by all. And so we give you this: The Sonoma Chicken Coop is
a great restaurant for a date or a night out with friends. The
atmosphere accommodates all, allowing for jeans or a dress-up
occasion. And, the best part, the food is great and the prices
are easy on the wallet.
