Varsity Boys Water Polo
by Meryl Fulinara
Since the start of the season the varsity
boys water polo team, as of October 31, has gone 1-4 in league,
14-14 overall, and won the Silver Pool Championship at the Valley
Christian Classic.
The water polo team spends every waking moment together, which,
in turn, adds to the team chemistry. Junior Andrew Kikuta said
with great enthusiasm, ”We spend almost every day and night
together, you name it we do it.” The team has a science
in which they work; they set up an agile offense and play an aggressive
defense. Matt Theisner added in response to why they work so well
together, “We have our male bonding time.” Jordan
Ajlouny stated, “This team is the most good looking team
on campus, we’re hot.”
So far the team is pleased with the outcome of the first half
of their season. Theisner recounted, “We’re improving
a lot and we’re setting the foundation for the next generation
of Valley Water Polo.” Chase Hughes articulated with great
concern, “There are a lot of hard teams in the West Catholic
league, and most schools have more players on the team than Valley.
But I guess that means that we have to be in better condition
and be more consistent.”
Kikuta voiced his wish to beat their “rival” Archbishop
Mitty at the Valley Christian Classic. While at the Valley Christian
Classic, the boys water polo team got their wish by beating Mitty
10-7 in a grueling battle of dominance. Valley’s varsity
water polo team won the Silver Pool Championship by playing Santa
Cruz in which VC pulled out the win with a score of 8 to 5.
