Raising
Money for Kenya Project 2005
"All I can think about
is going back to Africa. God just built me for this purpose."
- Ashby Rauch
by Erin Parker
Ashby has dedicated her life to working for
these kids.
Mrs. Marshall’s
Global Studies I class joined together with GRACEworks International
to help raise money for children in Kenya. Although the Global Studies
I class is helping to raise money for this organization, it is really
through the unity of the entire school that will help raise to raise
the funds.
Ashby Rauch, the founder of the organization, came
to share her experiences with Valley students on October 12. She shared
her image of the school she wants to build Africa that will help feed
and educate children.
Last year, nearly $500 was raised through World Vision to send money
to children in Africa. With fund raising programs being initiated
by the students this year, such as bake sales, and generous donations
from the students, the children’s home in Africa will be more than
just a dream.
Instead of buying a vente cappuccino every morning, instead use the
money you normally would have spent to help the children in Africa.
Africa is suffering from a staggering amount of malnutrition as well
as an AIDs epidemic within the people. Students are encouraged to
hold off on their coffee cravings for at least one week to help those
in dire need. With the money collected from the entire student body,
Valley students should be more than be able to support the building
and plans.
Ashby left all she had to go to Africa and give an education to the
children she saw suffering in Africa. She felt a real desire to help
in every possible way she could. “All I can think about is going back
to Africa. God just built me for this purpose. This is the best thing
you can give children. You can’t go wrong if you teach them that God
loves them.”
To help become a part of the Global Studies I project, visit Mrs.
Marshall for information about the fund raisers she is currently organizing.
If you feel a desire to go beyond just giving a donation, or you are
interested in summer missionary work, email Ashby at Ashby@graceworksintl.org
or call (503) 679-0662. To learn more about her foundation Grace Works
International, visit the website at www.graceworksintl.org. Information
about how to give money donations is also available on the website.

Square Dance in the City
A typical Saturday night at the Valley Christian campus does not usually
consist of 594 students dancing in the large gym. However, on October
15, VC students came to celebrate the annual Square Dance. The large
gym was festively decorated “barn yard” style with an array of farm
animals and crepe paper. The student body stepped away from the usual
matching t-shirts outfit and transformed the dance into more of a
costume party. The senior class definitely outdid themselves with
outrageous costumes such as penguin suits, knights and damsels, and
even washer and dryer machines.

Santa Teresa SAT Scandal
For most people, waking up early on a Saturday morning to trudge into
an unfamiliar classroom and pound out five hours of testing is not
on the top of their to do list. For those who were scheduled to take
SATs at Santa Teresa, though, having to show up a second time due
to rescheduling was simply too much.

West Catholic League!
As the league football season rapidly nears its end and
the West Catholic teams begin their final preparations for CCS playoffs,
the Warriors are doubling their efforts in practice to ensure that
they will be competing at the top of their game.
On October 7, Valley Christian hosted the Riordan Crusaders under
their own bright lights. The Warriors, after the huge homecoming victory
over Mitty the previous week, executed both offense and defense with
confidence and were able to gain an early lead.
