The VCHS Communications Department, which includes Journalism, Radio, Yearbook, TV, and Film has made dramatic improvements since last year.
The Journalism and Yearbook classes have moved into the same room as Radio, and purchased new Apple computers for the use of all three classes. The Communications Department also purchased new Apples for TV and Film. Yearbook and Journalism teacher, Mrs. Diann Fugate, is pleased with the changes in the classrooms. Mrs. Fugate commented, “With the new computer labs, all students are able to work more efficiently on their projects.”
KVCH-TV hopes to improve both the webcast and newscast by raising the level of production quality. The webcast goals are to display an equal amount of men and women’s athletic events. The also plan to show live feeds of school events, such as the Poetry Slam. A new set is being built for the daily newscasts which will include a panoramic view of the school as the backdrop. The goals for newscast this year is to have more student-produced stories.
In the film area, The Art of Film class studies the theory of film, while Advanced Filmmaking is an application class. This summer, Film teacher Nate Marshall installed a 12 foot movie screen in Studio 218 for viewing of films during these classes.
One of the special features of the Art of Film class is that it counts as a UC approved art credit, while all the other Communications classes fulfill the VC technology requirements.
