JV Girls Volleyball Finish Strong
by Leah Elias

The girls junior varsity volleyball season has been a rewarding one. The girls did an awesome job, winning all of their non-league games against opponents such as Cupertino, Branham, and Santa Teresa. The Lady Warriors went to Branham and defeated them in two games. The first game was a knockout win with a score of 25-1. In the second game the Bruins fought hard to get back into the game, however the Warriors came back to win the game. On October 2, Cupertino High School came up to Valley to face off against the girls JV volleyball. Again the Lady Warriors came ready to play and defeated Cupertino High School in two games. The Santa Teresa Saints were the next match up for the JV volleyball team at their home court. Unfortunately for the Saints, the Lady Warriors came out on top again to keep their undefeated non-league record.

On another note, throughout the season the girls have bonded outside of volleyball by going bowling and getting together to make shirts. Freshman Alex Duke said, “ Our team bonding has really helped us unite both on the court and off. It has helped us to play better as a team.” Also coach Jess Torres has assigned the team homework, such as writing out positions and plays.

Although the girls have not won a league game yet, they have come very close against opponents such as Notre Dame Belmont and Presentation High School. In both matches the JV volleyball team barely lost by taking it to close scores in three games. Luckily, the girls get the chance to play most of the teams in league again. Sophomore Captain Kaylan Whitaker said, “Saint Francis was a tough team, but we’ll get them next time.” On October 25, the girls traveled to San Francisco to play the Wildcats of Saint Ignatius. They put out a lot of effort with kills by sophomore Christina Daou and sophomore Kaylan Whitaker.
